Scott Kurtz’s simple-yet-elegant takedown of the return of bad, ’90s pointless poses reminded me of this incredible series of videos on YouTube.
An unknown person (or persons) took all of the tracks from Girl Talk’s genius mashup album Feed the Animals (which features hundreds of incredible and unlicensed song samples) and created mashup videos for them. Without anyone’s permission. He/she just did it, and it is AWESOME.
Here’s the first one:
There are 14 videos total, though the last one is audio-only.
There is no one in entertainment who can take bits of media out of context and create something New and Brilliant (and, unfortunately, Illegal) like Girl Talk. It would cost hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars to clear all of the samples on this album. And that’s just plain wrong. THIS is why we need copyright reform for the Digital Age.
Somebody has started creating videos for Girl Talk’s most recent album, All Day, too. Yeah, I like this.
So, taking something out of context to make something new and sharing it with people. Dear content creators: HOW IS THIS A BAD THING?
